SUMMARY:INDIGO For BIPOC Community at the Learning Center
DESCRIPTION:​Indigo\, the sacred plant of blue\, has origins to India\, but has traveled the world and grown into cultivated varieties from Central and South America\, Africa\, Indonesia and Japan. Globally\, many Indigenous cultures have a practice of creating beautiful hues of blue from this plant. \n​In this one day workshop we will explore different artistic and cultural practices of Indigo with BIPOC instructors from multiple backgrounds. Students will learn techniques used in pattern and design as well as tour the Fibershed Learning Center garden and harvest natural\, fresh Indigo grown right here in Point Reyes\, CA. \n​Students attending this workshop will be gifted with 3 items to dye and are welcome to bring one small personal item to add to the dye vat. This is a community collaborative class that will celebrate the freedom of playing with blue hues of color without any pressure to produce perfection. SUMMARY:Eco-print Seaweed with Sashoonya
DESCRIPTION:Eco-print with seaweed and plants on silk. Learn natural dye and resist techniques to create a layered\, wearable textile piece. \nMore information and purchase tickets here.  \n\n\n\n\nFibershed + Seelie Studio: Sea to Soil Series \nThis two-day class will introduce eco-printing with seaweed alongside select land-based plants\, offering an immersive exploration of natural dye practices rooted in both land and ocean ecosystems. Participants will work with a variety of seaweed species provided by the instructor and harvest leaves and flowers from the farm’s dye garden to develop a unique visual language on cloth. Along the way\, we will touch on foundational marine science concepts\, as well as the basics of harvesting and growing dye plants\, grounding our creative process in a deeper understanding of the materials we use. \nWorking on silk\, participants will explore how natural fibers interact with plant-based color. We will experiment with eco-printing techniques and then move into tie-resist\, stitch resist\, and block resist methods\, using dye baths made from our collected and processed plants—including fresh indigo and seasonal dye flowers. These processes will allow us to build layers of color\, texture\, and pattern\, creating depth and narrative within each piece. \nBy the end of the class\, each participant will have created a richly detailed silk scarf—designed to function as a wearable accessory\, a piece of home décor\, or a meaningful\, handmade gift. Beyond the finished object\, students will leave with a deeper understanding of eco-printing\, natural dye techniques\, and the interconnected systems of plants\, algae\, and the environment that make this work possible. \n**When booking your ticket\, you will only see August 22 as the purchase option. DESCRIPTION:Fibershed will be hosting Audrey Danser for her second Clothing Repair Day at the Learning Center on Saturday August 29th from 11am – 2pm. Come to the Learning Center near Point Reyes Station to have your favorite clothing items professionally repaired. \nModel & Bio: Audrey is a denim and garment repair specialist helping keep beloved clothes in circulation and out of the landfill. She runs her full time clothing repair business Salvage Studio from San Francisco where she has mended 3000+ jeans\, sweaters\, outdoor gear\, special vintage and modern pieces since 2020. She looks forward to meeting the West Marin community\, who she invites to bring garments for repair.
