SUMMARY:YARN DESIGN FROM SHEARING TO SKEIN with Pacific Knitting Retreats
DESCRIPTION:Here are the event details for our day at Red Creek Farm with Peggy\, Matthew and Sarah. I am so looking forward to this great opportunity to be in the company of knitters learning more about our favourite subject – yarn. The end of April is a perfect time to be with the lambs and sheep and the people who care for them and create the products we love to use. I do hope you will be able to join us for this lovely day. \nEvent Schedule and Details: \nArrival and welcome between 10:15am and 10:30am with kick off at 10:30am sharp at Red Creek Farm. \n10:30am – Peggy introduces the Red Creek Farm flock and the farm’s Climate beneficial practices as well as her dye garden. \n11am – 12:30pm – Shearing and Skirting \n12:30pm – 1:30pm:  Lunch on the Back Deck: Participants will be provided a menu from which to choose the contents of a boxed picnic lunch. \n1:30pm: Sarah and her Yarn Recipes – and the art and process of yarn design. \n3:15pm – 4:00pm  Shopping\, questions and farewells. \n$295.00 per person \nThere is an array of accommodation options in Ukiah for those who would like to extend their time in Mendocino County\, including the historic Vichy Springs Resort if you really want to relax and unwind. The mineral hot springs are renowned and have been hosting presidents\, artists and the rest of us since 1854. The hiking on this property is pretty glorious. Use of the baths\, pools and hiking trails are included if you stay at Vichy\, but pools and baths are available for day use also. \nIf there are participants who overnight in Ukiah\, I will host a knitting circle on the evening of the 29th (we can cast on our special event favor together perhaps or just bring your current wip) \nAN IMPORTANT NOTE: Peggy and Jonathan are opening their home as well as their farm to us. They care (joyfully!) for their young grandson there too. In recognition of that\, I ask that you please test for Covid before you come up. Most of our day will be spent outside\, but masks are acceptable for anyone who would be more comfortable wearing one\, of course. \nBookings will open on February 23\, 2023. \nPlease get in touch if you have any questions: GAYLE@PACIFICKNITTINGRETREATS.COM

SUMMARY:English Willow Basket Weaving Demonstration with Charlie Kennard
DESCRIPTION:A demonstration of weaving a large traditional English willow basket from start to finish \nCharlie will make a traditional large English willow basket from start to finish\, while pointing out the various techniques involved. At hand will be a selection of baskets exhibiting a variety of European willow techniques. \nThis demonstration doubles as a preparation for those who are interested in an upcoming two-day Willow Basket workshop at Fibershed Learning Center (December 3 & 4)\, so that attendees can gauge whether they are ready for the challenge of making a large willow basket. \nThe demonstration is limited to 18 attendees\, and will take place at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station\, CA. (Address provided upon registration.) Weather permitting\, we will be sitting outdoors in a shaded area. (You are welcome to bring your own outdoor folding chair or cushion\, otherwise outdoor seating is on wooden folding chairs.) In the event of rain\, we will be in the garage studio/classroom\, which has plenty of ventilation. We will be in a cool environment\, so attendees should dress warmly. \nPlease bring any personal snacks\, lunch and beverages. Lunch is not included. \nEnroll here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/360099757067 \n\nFibershed Scholarship Program\nFibershed is offering two scholarships to most workshops; one scholarship if it’s a small class. If you would not otherwise be able to attend\, and would like to be considered as a scholarship recipient\, please answer a few brief questions on this Google Form. Responses will be reviewed by Learning Center staff and kept strictly confidential. \n\nCharlie Kennard of San Anselmo is a long-time basket weaver and student of California Indian and other traditional basketry techniques of the world. He has taught for the Point Reyes Field Institute\, East Bay Regional Parks Botanic Garden\, Fibershed\, the Laguna Center and in many schools and at teacher trainings. Tule boats made in his workshops can be seen at the Bay Model in Sausalito\, Lake County Museum\, and another is in the collection of the Oakland Museum. You can also visit a basketry plant garden Charlie has created at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross. Charlie is active in native habitat restoration in Marin\, managing several projects for Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed. \nPhotos courtesy of Charlie Kennard
