SUMMARY:Working with Farm Yarns and Intro to the Dye Garden\, with Gayle Ravenscroft
DESCRIPTION:Learn the distinct and special value\, texture\, and project possibilities of working with wool from local ranches and special wool breeds! \nDate\nSeptember 14\, 2025 \n10am – 4pm PST \n  \nLocation\nFibershed Learning Center \n14000 Point Reyes Petaluma Road \nPoint Reyes Station\, CA \n  \nAbout the Event\nJoin us at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center with expert knitter\, Gayle Ravenscroft of Pacific Knitting Retreats\, for a class on working with ‘farm yarns.’ \n‘Farm yarns’ are yarns that are produced locally by our Fibershed shepherds on their ranches. These yarns offer unique characteristics that are tied to their origins and cannot be replicated in mass production. \nSome of the topics Gayle will discuss are: \n\nWhy knitters should consider ‘farm yarns\,’ and in particular\, yarns from their local Fibershed\nHow to find farm yarns\nProjects that are particularly suitable for farm yarns and why\nWool breed specificity (including heritage breeds) and how using different ones can add a special dimension to your craft.\n\nStudents will have ‘hands-on-needles’ knitting time with a variety of these yarns in person. The workshop will last two hours from 10am-12pm\, followed by a guided walk of the dye garden and a catered picnic lunch supplied by the instructor. \nNote! – There will be a separate afternoon field trip from 1-4pm that is connected to this workshop. To get a sneak peek into the local wool ranch\, Alpacas of Marin\, sign up at the link here : Sign up for the afternoon Ranch Visit ***\n***This portion of the event is hosted by the instructor\, and is NOT hosted through Fibershed. For all inquiries about the wool ranch visit\, please contact the instructor via the ‘ranch visit’ link above. \nParticipants must bring: \n\nKnitting needles (We will be working with yarns ranging in weight from Sport to Worsted in various styles\, so select sizes accordingly. Gauge is irrelevant so whatever you would facilitate freedom to experiment with is appropriate.)\nOther knitting tools\, if you have them\nThe instructor will be supplying a catered lunch\, details to confirmed after registration for lunch choice options. Coffee and tea will be provided on site.\nPlease bring any of your own additional personal snacks\, lunch\, and beverages.\nA notebook and pen for note taking is encouraged.\n\nMaximum 15 students. \nRSVP Now

For over 30 years\, the Hoes Down has generated valuable resources for local and statewide organizations working on projects which benefit sustainable agriculture and rural communities.\nSince the beginning\, Hoes Down has generated valuable funding for local and statewide organizations working on projects that support sustainable agriculture and rural communities. We are so proud that with your help\, we raised over $100\,000 to help these organizations with their important work! \nWe are grateful for your support and excited to share that this year’s festival will be held on Saturday\, October 4\, 2025 at the Full Belly Farm in Guinda\, California. These moments keep us grounded and growing and we look forward to sharing them with you! \nScroll down for more information on this year’s Hoes Down including ticket prices and more. We will be updating eco-farm.org throughout the summer as we add more details. \nLocation\nFull Belly Farm 16141 Road 43\, Guinda\, CA 95637 \nTickets\nTickets will be available online only at eco-farm.org beginning on August 1st. \nRegister Now
