DESCRIPTION:Dear handspinners\, knitters\, fiber producers and vendors\, \nWe invite you to participate in Spinners’ Day on the Farm.  This event is intended to promote\, showcase\, and sell fiber\, fiber arts\, and related crafts\, produced by farmers in Sonoma County and other vendors. \nWyammy Ranch is a picturesque 60+ year old ranch specializing in Romney and Wensleydale sheep\, perched on a hilltop  in the coastal hills near Occidental\, just 7 miles west of Sebastopol. \nCome relax\, spin\, visit with old and new friends\, and find that perfect fiber to create your next work of art.    \nThis year we will not be doing a pot-luck lunch.  Please bring your own food. \nWe will also require that all attendees be vaccinated for Covid\, with one booster\,  for the safety and peace of mind of all. \nThis is an entirely outdoor event. You will be parking in my riding arena\, with overflow parking in a pasture. Our gathering area is my large\, tree-shaded front yard. \nDirections:  Occidental can be reached from Sebastopol on Bodega Hwy\, to Bohemian Hwy in Freestone\, to town\,  Or by taking Occidental Road all the way from Santa Rosa\, or by Graton Rd  from the town of Graton. \nOn entering Occidental\, take Bittner Rd from the South-West corner of town.  Go 1 mile. \nAt the big green “ Wyammy Ranch 15600 “ sign\, turn right and go to the top  of the hill.  Just after the road turns to gravel\, the riding arena and parking will be on the right.  We will  ferry your equipment up to the meeting place.  The road up to the ranch is one lane.  Please plan to arrive between 10-11 so as not to meet traffic coming down. \nVendors will come between 8:00-9:30 and will park by the barn\, near their spaces. \nHandicapped parking will need to be pre-arranged. \nPlease leave your dogs at home. SUMMARY:2021 Fibershed Wool & Fine Fiber Symposium

She is also the Co-Founder of Sustainable Brooklyn\, an organization working to bridge the gap between the sustainability movement and targeted communities using tailored high-low approaches through BIPOC focused events & resource development. \nRebecca Burgess\, M.ed\, is the Executive Director of Fibershed\, Chair of the Board for Carbon Cycle Institute\, and the author of Harvesting Color. She is a vocationally trained weaver and natural dyer. She has over a decade of experience writing and implementing hands-on curricula that focus on the intersection of restoration ecology and fiber systems. Burgess has built an extensive network of farmers and artisans in the Northern California Fibershed to pilot an innovative fiber systems model at the community scale. SUMMARY:The Arc of Texture and Color Derived from a Regional Land Base
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the agro-ecological and social cultural depth of this strategic geography has become the life’s work of presenter\, Rebecca Burgess. In this presentation\, Burgess will expand on her personal work to live within the Fibershed that she calls home and will share select agro-cultural narratives from Fibershed landscapes emerging in all corners of the world. \nThe processes and phases responsible for getting us dressed each day produce more carbon and greenhouse gas emissions than international and maritime shipping combined. The pace of production and consumption has accelerated so quickly since the beginning of the 21st century\, that if we look at the global scale of waste streams— one garbage truck of textiles goes into the landfill or incinerator every second. \nOur clothes need not come at the cost of human and planetary health and wellbeing. Through the work to both slow down our consumption and simultaneously re-connect to the life giving textile resources within a strategic geography we can begin to re-sensitize our selves to the working landscapes and processes that generate our second skin. The word that has been coined to describe this strategic geography is known as a Fibershed. \nFibersheds are landscapes that produce an arc of color and texture that define the aesthetic foundation of a textile. The concept of ‘sheds’ as applied to material culture is an ancient one—before colonization and then fossil carbon usage were deployed to speed up the movement and concentration of material resources into centralized supply chains—humans had developed well honed and advanced place-based systems for the procurement of food\, fiber\, flora and fuel. \nIn North Central California 3.1 million pounds of wool and 250 million pounds of cotton\, a smattering of emerging indigo\, hemp and flax growers and a host of small mills\, felters\, knitters\, weavers\, designers and cut & sewers define the growing and processing of our region’s Fibershed. \nRebecca Burgess is the Executive Director of the 501c3 non-profit organization\, Fibershed. The organization’s mission is to develop regional fiber systems that build soil and protect the health of our biosphere. \nTicket Information – Admission: Free for current members of the Textile Arts Council; $5 for students and members of FAMSF; $10 General Admission. SUMMARY:Creative Retreat - Block Printing w/ Natural Dyes
DESCRIPTION:Escape to the magical\, refreshing forests of Mendocino and embark on a relaxing\, creative retreat with a small group of other creatives. \n  \nWe’ll be spending 3 days and 2 nights at The Farm Mendocino – a gorgeous\, off the grid BnB. Many of the meals will be provided using local\, fresh ingredients and cooked by private chef\, Emah. \n  \nBay Area block printer\, Miriam Dym\, will be guiding us in a workshop on making blocks + block printing using natural dyes. \n  \nYou’ll also get the opportunity to engage with local spiritual coach\, Stacy Cohen\, to gain guidance in a freeing\, mindful experience.
