I am so looking forward to this great opportunity to be in the company of knitters learning more about our favourite subject – yarn. The end of April is a perfect time to be with the lambs and sheep and the people who care for them and create the products we love to use. I do hope you will be able to join us for this lovely day. \nEvent Schedule and Details: \nArrival and welcome between 10:15am and 10:30am with kick off at 10:30am sharp at Red Creek Farm. \n10:30am – Peggy introduces the Red Creek Farm flock and the farm’s Climate beneficial practices as well as her dye garden. \n11am – 12:30pm – Shearing and Skirting \n12:30pm – 1:30pm:  Lunch on the Back Deck: Participants will be provided a menu from which to choose the contents of a boxed picnic lunch. \n1:30pm: Sarah and her Yarn Recipes – and the art and process of yarn design. \n3:15pm – 4:00pm  Shopping\, questions and farewells. \n$295.00 per person \nThere is an array of accommodation options in Ukiah for those who would like to extend their time in Mendocino County\, including the historic Vichy Springs Resort if you really want to relax and unwind. The mineral hot springs are renowned and have been hosting presidents\, artists and the rest of us since 1854. The hiking on this property is pretty glorious. Use of the baths\, pools and hiking trails are included if you stay at Vichy\, but pools and baths are available for day use also. \nIf there are participants who overnight in Ukiah\, I will host a knitting circle on the evening of the 29th (we can cast on our special event favor together perhaps or just bring your current wip) \nAN IMPORTANT NOTE: Peggy and Jonathan are opening their home as well as their farm to us. They care (joyfully!) for their young grandson there too. In recognition of that\, I ask that you please test for Covid before you come up. DESCRIPTION:Dear handspinners\, knitters\, fiber producers and vendors\, \nWe invite you to participate in Spinners’ Day on the Farm.  This event is intended to promote\, showcase\, and sell fiber\, fiber arts\, and related crafts\, produced by farmers in Sonoma County and other vendors. \nWyammy Ranch is a picturesque 60+ year old ranch specializing in Romney and Wensleydale sheep\, perched on a hilltop  in the coastal hills near Occidental\, just 7 miles west of Sebastopol. \nCome relax\, spin\, visit with old and new friends\, and find that perfect fiber to create your next work of art.    \nThis year we will not be doing a pot-luck lunch.  Please bring your own food. \nWe will also require that all attendees be vaccinated for Covid\, with one booster\,  for the safety and peace of mind of all. \nThis is an entirely outdoor event. You will be parking in my riding arena\, with overflow parking in a pasture. Our gathering area is my large\, tree-shaded front yard. \nDirections:  Occidental can be reached from Sebastopol on Bodega Hwy\, to Bohemian Hwy in Freestone\, to town\,  Or by taking Occidental Road all the way from Santa Rosa\, or by Graton Rd  from the town of Graton. \nOn entering Occidental\, take Bittner Rd from the South-West corner of town.  Go 1 mile. \nAt the big green “ Wyammy Ranch 15600 “ sign\, turn right and go to the top  of the hill.  Just after the road turns to gravel\, the riding arena and parking will be on the right.  We will  ferry your equipment up to the meeting place.  The road up to the ranch is one lane.  Please plan to arrive between 10-11 so as not to meet traffic coming down. \nVendors will come between 8:00-9:30 and will park by the barn\, near their spaces. \nHandicapped parking will need to be pre-arranged. \nPlease leave your dogs at home. DESCRIPTION:Fleece to Garment Series with Windrush Farm \n\nLearn to create a garment from shearing day to a finished piece.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJanuary 29.  Fleece to Garment.  11 to 3pm.  Witness a sheep shearing and choose your fleece you will be processing for the class.  We will have corriedale cross fleeces and Shetland fleeces for you to choose from.  You will learn how to skirt a fleece\, and how to judge the quality of the fleece\, and how parts of the fleece relate to garment design.  Staple length\, crimp\, and hand will be discussed as well as the micron count and its relation to the design of the yarn from that fleece.\nFebruary 13.  Scouring Your Fleece. 1 to 4pm.  We will teach you how to wash your fleece without felting it.  Included will be the different prepping steps you will want to make in order to prepare your fleece for spinning. \nFebruary 27.  Carding Your Fleece. 1 to 4pm  You will learn how to card fleece on hand cards\, with drum carders\, or with hand combs.  This class will introduce yarn design and its relation to garment design.  We will also introduce the garment patterns and what yarns will work best with the different designs. \nMarch 6.  Open Carding Lab.  10 to 3pm.  This is the time to finish carding your yarn before getting going on spinning. \nMarch 20.  Spinning Your Fleece. 1 to 4pm.  We discuss yarn design\, gauge\, swatches\, and plans for your garment. You will be spinning different types of yarn in preparation for deciding your final yarn for your project. \nApril 3.  Progress on Your Project.  1 to 4pm.  Bring in your projects and get class reaction and support for your efforts. \nMay 1.  The Fashion Show.  11:30 to 3pm.  Bring a potluck lunch dish and dine together.  Then walk the fashion runway and show off your garment.  Family and friends are invited. \n$550 includes one fleece \nOnline Registration: Evenbrite \nMail in Registration: Please send a check made out to Windrush Farm.
