SUMMARY:"Sympoeisis: making with" Opening Reception by SoCal Fibershed
DESCRIPTION:The long-awaited So Cal Fibershed art show is coming! \nThis exhibition explores how one of humanity’s oldest craft and industrial forms––the making of clothing––has shaped our relationship to the land\, our bodies\, and each other. \nFor thousands of years\, people have transformed animal- and plant-based fiber to craft garments that clothed and protected their bodies\, offered decoration\, and ultimately engendered a radical and disruptive transformation of the earth\, cultures\, and economies. Many of us recognize fashion as aspirational\, highly profitable\, and innovative\, yet clothing’s humble origins\, necessity\, and profound implications for our wellbeing and that of the earth is under-appreciated\, and often feels mysterious. Fiber-based work embodies generations of cultural skills and concepts; our disconnections from the sources of the material we wear and the knowledge of how that material is transformed is a rupture of our natural relationships to the earth and each other. \nThis intimate exhibit is designed as a journey through local ecosystems and craft traditions\, drawing connections between soil\, plant\, animal\, work\, hand\, and body. \nSaturday\, February 25\, 2023\nOpening Reception 2 – 5 pm\nSympoeisis: making with\nat Studio 203 in Los Angeles\, CA 90034 \nExhibit runs through April 8\, 2023. \nThe exhibit is sponsored by Material Encounters\, fiscal sponsorship provided by SIMA Studios.

DESCRIPTION:Interested in growing hemp but not sure where to start? This information-dense full-day intensive workshop on hemp production will feature several speakers with experience in growing hemp\, processing the plant for fiber and oil production\, and the application requirements you’ll need to meet in order to grow hemp in Massachusetts.  \nWith a new Massachusetts policy authorizing the commercial production of agricultural hemp in the state\, local farmers have a great opportunity to take advantage of this new business opportunity. Hemp can be grown on poor soils and is an efficient weed suppressor\, making it a low maintenance cash crop option for area growers. A tentative agenda is posted below.m \nQuestions can be submitted to info@semaponline.org. \n$45 for SEMAP Members / $75 General Admission \n
