Thanks to our community’s generosity\, we’ve awarded over $600\,000 in grants to 60+ local farms and ranches\, and contributed $35\,000+ to Market Match to make fresh\, local food more affordable for CalFresh recipients. \nOn September 16\, 2025\, we will host the 10th Anniversary Farm-Raiser at Yokayo Ranch in Ukiah on Northern Pomo land. This event brings together chefs\, farmers\, and community members in celebration of our region’s food system with local chef and farm pairings\, local alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages\, live music\, and powerful speakers committed to food justice in our region. SUMMARY:Celebrate Science and Nature - A Fundraiser for HREC
DESCRIPTION:Join the UC Hopland Research and Extension Center to celebrate science and nature at this spectacular site. Hands on field experiences and a delicious farm to table luncheon with live music and auction will all be available. \nOur celebration will begin with an optional field session\, get involved with our work by meeting researchers and experiencing their projects hands on!\nChoose from: \n\nDrones for post-fire research – watch drones in action and understand how they can be used to help research and manage our landscapes with Shane Feirer\, UCANR IGIS.\nOak woodlands regeneration – help to protect young oaks at HREC and learn about efforts to support our oak woodlands.\nWildlife – Learn why HREC is such an important location for wildlife research with Dr. Jacalyn Beck.\nPond restoration – and the hoped for return of the red-legged frog.\nSheep – Meet the HREC flock with head shepherd Alison Smith and learn about the ways in which they help research and education.\nFire Science for Schools – build you own burn board and tinker tree to learn about our fire programming for youth (and adults!).\nHike with our Blue Zones Walking Moai.\n\nFollowing the field session we will gather at the Rod Shippey Hall to enjoy our own HREC lamb (vegetarian/vegan options available)\, alongside other farm to table produce. Live music a live auction and a chance to hear directly from our researchers will be offered during the meal.
