SUMMARY:Locavore Wonderland - Berkeley Farmers Markets
DESCRIPTION:The farmers’ market is not just a place for groceries: it’s a great place to find gifts! Preserves\, aged balsamic vinegar\, locally roasted coffee\, hot sauce\, fair trade chocolate\, and local honey are great gifts available all year round. Over the month of December\, join us at the farmers’ market for a holiday gifting series featuring weekly pop-up vendors selling even more gifts for the foodies in your lives—plus handmade jewelry\, woodwork\, soaps & body care\, pottery\, and other handmade goods. \nThe Berkeley Farmers’ Markets are open-air marketplaces where California farmers bring fresh\, locally-grown produce and farm-processed foods to sell directly to consumers. Our markets feature fruits\, vegetables\, nuts\, baked goods\, jams and preserves\, juices\, olive oils\, meat\, cheese\, prepared foods\, and flowers. We are committed to supporting small-scale farmers who practice sustainable agriculture. \nShopping at a farmers market is a wholly unique experience where farmers\, local artisans and shoppers get to know each other\, do business\, and help each other. When you shop at the farmers’ market\, you shop local\, you shop sustainable\, and you shop community. \nIt can be hard to leave the house in the winter season\, especially when your shopping can be as little as a click away. But the wintertime farmers’ market is a special experience worth savoring. Things are a little slower. There’s more time to connect with your vendors. \nOur wintertime Pop-up Gifting Series will feature even more vendors with unique products that tell the story of the shop-local movement. Right at the farmers’ market\, the same place you can buy ingredients for your family dinner\, you can purchase a hand-crafted gift from the person who made it. \nBundle up and slow down this winter season. Take the time to enjoy the thriving community that sustains the slow food movement. Shop local for your holiday gifts at the farmers’ market\, and you may find that the real gift is the experience. \nAbout Ecology Center \nFounded in 1969\, the Ecology Center is a nonprofit organization located in Berkeley\, California that focuses on improving the health and the environmental impacts of urban residents. We address critical issues through a model of education\, demonstration\, replication\, and advocacy. \nLocation \nTuesdays \n12/5/23 \n12/12/23 \n12/19/23 \n\nSouth Berkeley Farmers’ Market\nAdeline St @ 63rd Street\n2-6:30PM\n\n  \nThursdays \n12/7/23 \n12/14/23 \n12/21/23 \n\nNorth Berkeley Farmers’ Market\nShattuck Ave @ Vine St\n3-7pm\n\n  \nSaturday \n12/2/23 \n12/9/23 \n12/16/23 \n12/23/23 \n\nDowntown Berkeley Farmers’ Market\nCenter St @ MLK\n10-3pm\n\n

SUMMARY:Workshop: Vegetarian Sheepskin Seat Pad
DESCRIPTION:Create a “Vegetarian Sheepskin” Seat Pad\nSaturday\, December 9\, 2023 10:30-4:00 PT \nLearn how to use wet felting to create faux sheepskin pelts. In this class we will work on making seat pads but you will leave with the knowledge (and your pad and other materials) needed to create full size rugs\, scarves\, throws\, pet beds\, and anything else you might see a pelt used for. All materials will be provided\, including the wool\, so you can even say hi to the sheep you will be sitting on. \nAbility to stand at a table and do rolling pin type motions for an extended amount of time is necessary. This class will be outdoors so please dress accordingly and keep in mind that this process can be messy and wet. There will be time for a break so be sure to bring a lunch. \nTeacher: Siobhan Harlakenden is enthusiastic about all things wool. She is a delightful teacher and brings her interest in historical textile construction to her classes\, the latest of which was Medieval Distaff and Spindle Spinning at Lambtown 2023. \nWorkshop fee: $100\nMaterials fee: $66 \nThe materials fee includes all the wool you will need and the supplies that are used to create the faux sheepskin. You will be able to reuse some of those supplies for your next project at home. \nSign Up Here\nContact \nRobin Lynde\nMeridian Jacobs\n707-688-3493\nEmail: robin@meridianjacobs.com OR meridianjacobs7811@gmail.com\nBlog: www.meridianjacobs.com/meridian-jacobs-blog AND\nhttps://meridianjacobs.wordpress.com \nLocation \n7811 N.
