DESCRIPTION:Transhumance Festival: A Celebration of Grassland Culture\, Resiliency and the Dedication to Good Good \n“The seasonal migration of shepherds and sheep” \n  \nOn May 11th\, 2019\, we will herd a flock of sheep from the Petaluma hills to downtown Petaluma. The flock will be grazing Steamer Landing Park Peninsula for fire protection and ecological health. \n  \nThe morning will be dedicated to this act of shepherding called “transhumance”. Lunch will be provided by our local butchers at Thistle meats and Chef Matt Roberts. The day will be dedicated to ecological literacy\, panels\, and Fibershed-inspired market place. \n  \nThis festival will bring the outer landscapes to the village center. \nWe seek to bring awareness to the connectivity of our food choices\, how they affect our landscapes\, local economies\, and waterways. This festival aims to create a space for the development of our ecological lexicon in our region; to be a space of education and play both for our school children and adults alike\, and to create a culture around our ecology and to enliven the art of grazing. \n  \nTickets are $25 per person / under 12 free.  – This includes local food tastings. \nLunch is $20 per person – An incredible feast out on the Peninsula. \nTRANSHUMANCE FESTIVAL day of 2019

SUMMARY:Beginning Nuno Felting
DESCRIPTION:Nuno Felting is a way of creating garments\, sculptures\, hats and art pieces using the interlocking trait of wool fibers laid over silk. The fibers bond to the silk\, creating a lightweight felted fabric that can be used in many ways. The technique was developed around 1992 by Polly Stirling\, a fiber artist from New South Wales\, Australia.  The word “nuno” means cloth in Japanese.  \n  \nLindy plans to teach three classes in Nuno felting\, allowing participants to dig deeply into this technique. \n  \nIn the beginning class\, students will learn to design by layering different wools and synthetic fibers over a thin silk fabric to produce a piece that can be used as an accent to other garments\, a purse\, wallet or hat. \n  \nAbout Lyndy Pickens: \nFalling in love with fleece while growing up\, Lyndy Pickens learned to spin as a teenager. During her evolution with fleece\, she was introduced to felting when her favorite sweater shrunk in the wash!  Eventually\, Nuno felting became her passion and interfaced well with her Clothing and Textile background. DESCRIPTION:Come learn how to make your own soap and luxurious lotion at home. In this 3-hour class\, you will be guided through the entire process of both soap making using the cold process method and lotion making: we will make two different soaps using local\, sustainable ingredients (organic oils\, animal fats\, hydrosols\, butters & essential oils)\, determining our recipe on a soap calculator\, safety procedures and making your soap. You will then get to decorate your soap with a variety of dried herbs. You will go home with 2 bars of soap in a silicone (reusable) mold and 2 ounces of the lotion in a glass jar. Note that it takes 2.5 weeks for the soap to cure and be ready for use. You must wear closed-toe shoes for this class.  \n  \nCost $50 \n

DESCRIPTION:Ikat is the technique in which yarn is tied and dyed before weaving. In warp ikat\, the technique is applied only to the warp. Setting up the warp on the loom requires elaborate and precise work\, but once this is accomplished\, weaving is simple and quick. \n  \nClasses meet on four consecutive Saturdays: May 4\, 11\, 18\, and 25\, 11 am – 2 pm. DESCRIPTION:THIS IS A 2 DAY WORKSHOP. May 4 +5; 10 – 5\n\nArtists Agus Ismoyo and Nia Fliam from Yogyakarta\, Indonesia will hold a two-day workshop in batik using indigo dyes. This workshop will take participants through a step by step experience of the batik process. \n\nIsmoyo and Nia will share also some about the history\, culture\, and creative process imbued in batik as well as some movement to awaken the body as a tool in creativity. An introduction to equipment and materials used in the process and their safe use will be followed by hands-on experience using the Indonesian canting tool or hand-drawn batik (batik tulis) and handmade copper stamps (batik cap) to create individual pieces. \n\nParticipants can expect to come away with at least three batik pieces and a foundation for continuing exploration of the medium. \n\nStudents can always make contact with Ismoyo and Nia in the future for technical guidance. DESCRIPTION:On May 1\, 2019\, Bee Audacious and the Marin Art & Garden Center are co-sponsoring Bee Audacious Bay Area\, a dialogue conference that will focus on issues related to promoting pollinator habitat in the San Francisco Bay Area. \n\nTo succeed in developing workable change\, we need to bring together people in the Bay Area with different perspectives on issues related to pollinator habitat.  The goals of the day include networking\, sharing what’s worked / what hasn’t worked\, and brainstorming how we might be able to work together on projects moving forward. \n\nThis will not be a traditional conference\, but one to be guided by the methods utilized at the Simon Fraser University Center for Dialogue. There will be a few speeches. Most of the time will be spent in small groups in active dialogue. We are looking to gather constructive\, collaborative and thoughtful people who will bring experience from a wide variety of fields that produce impacts on pollinator habitat.\n  \nEarly bird registration is $95 through 3/31/19.  Regular price is $115.  \nRegistration includes lunch. Due to format (dialogue)\, we will be limiting the number of participants to 60\, so it is recommended that you register early to ensure a place in the discussions. \n

DESCRIPTION:Weaving Bootcamp for Beginners: Weaving with Chunky Yarn and Wool Roving \n  \nIn this weaving bootcamp\, you will learn the basics of weaving using thick\, luxurious yarns and wool roving (it’s that magical fluffy stuff that looks like clouds of yarn!!) You will learn beginner-level weaving skills such as how to warp a loom\, weave with a needle\, head weave with roving\, and how to make a decorative fringe. To hone your new skills\, you will work on completing one chunky wool wall hanging\, which measures 12″ X 22″ in size. Each wall hanging comes with a wooden dowel or copper pipe to insert across the top for easy hanging and beautiful wall display! Each student will leave with one finished wall hanging\, one wooden weaving loom\, a handout with a recap of the skills\, terms\, and resources discussed in class\, and the skill to design and produce additional weaving projects on their loom at home! \n  \nPre-requisite: None. This class is ideal for total beginners with no experience. If you have taken our Intro to Weaving: Woven Tapestry Edition class\, please note that this bootcamp class teaches a different style of weaving\, uses a different loom\, and utilizes thicker yarns for the final wall hanging. This bootcamp is a fantastic compliment to the skills taught in the Intro to Weaving class\, but by no means requires any prior weaving experience. \n  \nSupplies Needed: None. We have done all the legwork of sourcing the hard-to-find yarns\, roving\, and a simple wooden loom. You will receive a loom that measures 17″ X 23″\, and is simple to disassemble for easy storage. These wooden looms usually run around $30 retail.
