SUMMARY:Natural Dyeing Workshops - Cool Colors
DESCRIPTION:Natural Dyeing Cool Colors \n  \nExplore cool shades of naturally dyed yarns during a day full of interesting discussion and hands-on experiences. The workshop will be co-hosted by Brooke Sinnes of Sincere Sheep yarns and Kira Dulaney of Kira K Designs\, and held at the backyard dye studio of Sincere Sheep in Napa\, CA. We will dye fourteen one-ounce skeins of yarn in blue\, green\, and purple using natural dye extracts\, dried dyestuffs\, and plants that we will gather. Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase additional pre-mordanted yarn to dye. \n  \nWe have two different curricula for cool colors\, both of which provide a range of blues\, purples\, and greens. In Cool Colors #1\, we will overdye pre-indigo-dyed skeins with cochineal\, weld\, and marigold\, and also dye white skeins with logwood and a combination of fustic and logwood. In Cool Colors #2\, we will overdye pre-indigo-dyed skeins with madder\, fustic\, and gardenia seed pods\, and also dye white skeins with a combination of weld and logwood purple\, and a combination of quebracho red and logwood purple. Students also receive skeins pre-dyed with indigo in both classes. \n  \nWe will meet from 10-4\, with an hour break for lunch. All workshop materials will be provided\, but attendees are responsible for their own meals and lodging. After the workshop is over\, we will have an optional field trip to Yarns on First\, Napa’s local yarn store\, with a 10% discount for our group. \n  \n$185

DESCRIPTION:Join us at Warner Mountain Weavers\, in Cedarville Cailifornia\, August 10-11\, for two days of Eco Printing outside under the big sky! Eco Printing is a sensuous dye technique true to its name. It is both environmentally friendly and works like a dye print in which the image and energy of the dye plants are transferred directly to the textile. You’ll learn to work with wild harvested plant materials (leaves\, flowers\, bark\, etc.) in a beautiful and expressive way. We’ll use this magical technique to make living\, breathing textiles that have personal meaning and are deeply connected to the places we call home. You’ll finish class with a merino/silk loop scarf and a couple of pure silk pieces that can be used in a variety of ways. \nThis class is taught by Cory Gunter Brown\, an artisan and empath who has practiced the entwined arts of sacred adornment and the handmade her whole life. She was born and raised in East Oakland and comes from a radical and creative family of dancers\, machinists\, artists\, and activists. She is now teaching natural dye workshops to adults and children\, producing a select few naturally dyed items each month\, and making plant infused body oils in collaboration with the plant beings from the land where she lives in Mendocino. DESCRIPTION:(Tuition includes all materials) \nEach season brings forth native and endemic plant color that reflects the nature of the season. In this workshop at beautiful Black Rock Ranch in Stinson Beach\, we will explore the seasonal ecology and biological diversity of California’s floristic province through the act of dye making. This class will cover basic harvesting principles\, information about how to plant and care for native plants to create one’s own natural dye hedgerow or garden\, as well as providing hands-on skill building in making and utilizing native plant dye vats.
