SUMMARY:Rush and Tule Twined Basket Making with Charlie Kennard
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station\, CA for a juncus and tule basketry workshop with Charlie Kennard. Each participant will make an open bowl with rush (Juncus) warps and tule wefts. We will practice various twining stitches to make a patterned surface\, and finish with a decorative rim. \nParticipants must bring: large scissors and a water bowl (e.g.\, a 9” round cake pan); plus any personal snacks\, lunch and beverages. \nMaximum 15 students. \nRegister Here \n\n_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _\n\nFibershed Scholarship Program \nFibershed is offering one scholarship per workshop. Responses will be reviewed by Learning Center staff and kept strictly confidential. \n_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ \nCharlie Kennard of San Anselmo is a long-time basket weaver and student of California Indian and other traditional basketry techniques of the world. He has taught for the Point Reyes Field Institute\, East Bay Regional Parks Botanic Garden\, Fibershed\, the Laguna Center and in many schools and at teacher trainings. Tule boats made in his workshops can be seen at the Bay Model in Sausalito\, Lake County Museum\, and another is in the collection of the Oakland Museum. You can also visit a basketry plant garden Charlie has created at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross. Charlie is active in native habitat restoration in Marin\, managing several projects for Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed. \n\n\n_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _\nPlease keep your pets at home as we have livestock onsite. SUMMARY:Natural Dye Camp
DESCRIPTION:Explore plants of the Northern California coastal landscape\, how to extract color for natural dyes\, and what it means to grow a relationship with plants and place. Hosted at the beautiful Elderflower Farm in Caspar\, CA. \nThe property is fully off-grid\, providing a tranquil space for us to gather\, engage our senses and skill-build in community. You can expect two hands-on workshops days learning how to identify\, forage and process plants for natural dyes at the beach and Elderflower Farm. A mix of guided and self-led downtime\, shared meal times and plenty of time with nature. \nAbout the Camp\nOn-site camping at Elderflower Farm\, 2 days of natural dye workshops\, light hiking\, beach time\, optional group meal times\, and plenty of solo time to reflect & explore. Vegetarian meal provided Friday evening for the welcoming circle. All other meals will be self-provided. \nDates\nSeptember 6th\, 7th\, 8th 2024. Arrive anytime after 1pm Friday. Workshops to be held Saturday and Sunday between 10am-3pm. Sunday’s session will wrap up by 4pm for departure. \nLocation\nElderflower Farm in Caspar\, CA – the Mendocino coast.
