SUMMARY:Hoes Down Harvest Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Hoes Down Harvest Festival is dedicated to honoring and promoting the knowledge of agricultural arts and sustainable rural living through inspiration and education. For over 30 years\, the Hoes Down has generated valuable resources for local and statewide organizations working on projects which benefit sustainable agriculture and rural communities.\nSince the beginning\, Hoes Down has generated valuable funding for local and statewide organizations working on projects that support sustainable agriculture and rural communities. We are so proud that with your help\, we raised over $100\,000 to help these organizations with their important work! \nWe are grateful for your support and excited to share that this year’s festival will be held on Saturday\, October 4\, 2025 at the Full Belly Farm in Guinda\, California. This year’s Hoes Down theme is Grounded We Grow\, which was inspired by feeling that so much is beyond our control. In a world that can feel uncertain\,  it is so important to stay rooted in community\, support our neighbors\, and find joy together. Hoes Down is a celebration of that spirit- bringing people together to share good food\, get hands in the dirt and feel the earth beneath dancing feet. These moments keep us grounded and growing and we look forward to sharing them with you! \nScroll down for more information on this year’s Hoes Down including ticket prices and more. We will be updating eco-farm.org throughout the summer as we add more details. \nLocation\nFull Belly Farm 16141 Road 43\, Guinda\, CA 95637 \nTickets\nTickets will be available online only at eco-farm.org beginning on August 1st. \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Help the Kelp: Create Natural Dye with Sea Urchins\, with Seelie Studio
DESCRIPTION:Help the kelp by dyeing a wool beanie with purple urchins from kelp restoration projects! And hold a live sea urchin\nThe Fibershed Learning Center is excited to offer Seelie Studio‘s most in-depth urchin dye workshop to date! For the first time\, Margaret Seelie\, the founder of Seelie Studio\, will show you the entire urchin dye process\, beginning with how we source the urchins\, process their bodies\, and create dye. You’ll have your own dye station where you’ll experience this unforgettable natural dye process and dye a Climate Beneficial Certified Merino Wool beanie sourced in California. \n\nDate\nNovember 8\, 2025 \n10AM PST \nLocation\nFibershed Learning Center \n14000 Point Reyes – Petaluma Road \nPoint Reyes Station\, CA 94956 \nAbout the Event\n\n\nFor the first time\, Seelie Studio will also have live urchins in class. You’ll learn about our spikey friends with PhD student and urchin extraordinaire Maddie Armstrong. \nSea Urchins are incredible creatures. However\, due to human impact\, their populations have gone unchecked\, and they have consumed 95% of the kelp forests in California. In efforts to help the kelp and honor these animals\, we will create a beautifully dyed beanie using urchins from various kelp restoration projects along the West Coast. Join us at the intersection of environmental responsibility and artistic expression. \nWhat’s included:\n✴ Personal dye station with ingredients for a one-gallon sea urchin dye bath\n✴ One wool beanie (Fibershed Climate Beneficial™ Verified premium Merino wool sourced locally from California)\n✴ One urchin shell (also known as a test)\n✴ (optional) Bring a jar to take any leftover dye or sludge home with you to keep experimenting. Glass jars used in this workshop will not be available for sale or to take home. \nNote: Seelie Studio will have urchin dye kit refills available for purchase! \nParticipants must bring: \n\nAny personal snacks\, lunch\, and beverages. Coffee and tea will be provided.\nA notebook and pen for note taking is encouraged.\nAppropriate\, studio-safe clothing and footwear\n\nRSVP Now

SUMMARY:Sheep Harvesting Workshop with John O'Mara
DESCRIPTION:This event is sponsored by a Fibershed Northern California Producer or a Fibershed Affiliate. Please search for host details within the listing for more event details.\n\nTo register visit fullcirclewool.com\n\nThis is a workshop dedicated to learning how to humanely harvest sheep and make use of the whole animal. We will demonstrate how to ethically harvest and process sheep only using a knife. We will explore the many uses of organ meats\, intestines for sausage-making\, blood\, and bones in an attempt to imbue the participants with these skills to return to their lives as part of their skillsets.  We will collaboratively honor the death of the sheep and explore the many facets of our lives that are fed by our ancient relationship to sheep.  We will eat our way through the process and learn how to break down the carcasses using seam butchery which only requires a small knife.\n\nThis class is intended for people wanting to harvest their own animals\, process roadkill\, and become more familiar with how ruminants are put together\, and how our relationship to them has and continues to evolve over time. Participants will be able to take meat home\, gamble with astragalus bones\, and have the knowledge and know-how to replicate the process.\n\n*Benefits means you will get to take meat home with you\, come prepared with a cooler.  Meat will be split up amongst those who opt in.  Proceeds go to support shepherds in the village of Umm al-Khair\, in the West Bank of Palestine through the Center for Jewish Non-Violence (see cjnv.org for more info).\n\nSee event link for pricing and other details.
