SUMMARY:Woven Willow Fence Workshop with Charlie Kennard
DESCRIPTION:Register here\nLearn to make a willow fence at our Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station\, CA with Charlie Kennard. \nWe will cut willow from a dense thicket on site\, and then weave a section of fence near the creek\, using a twining technique. Similar fences are made in many parts of the world to keep domestic and wild animals in or out\, as well as for protecting honeybee hives. \nIf you would like to help Charlie gather additional willow for the workshop (on a day1-2 weeks prior to the workshop)\, please email us by Oct. 21 indicating weekday or weekend availability to coordinate. Email us at learningcenter@fibershed.org \nParticipants must bring: any personal lunch\, snacks\, and beverages;\nWear boots or strong shoes that may get wet\, plus bring gloves and garden clippers. Bring loppers if you have them. \nMaximum 10 students. \nCharlie Kennard of San Anselmo is a long-time basket weaver and student of California Indian and other traditional basketry techniques of the world. He has taught for the Point Reyes Field Institute\, East Bay Regional Parks Botanic Garden\, Fibershed\, the Laguna Center and in many schools and at teacher trainings. Tule boats made in his workshops can be seen at the Bay Model in Sausalito\, Lake County Museum\, and another is in the collection of the Oakland Museum. You can also visit a basketry plant garden Charlie has created at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross. Charlie is active in native habitat restoration in Marin\, managing several projects for Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed. \nFibershed Scholarship Program \nFibershed is offering one scholarship per workshop. If you would not otherwise be able to attend\, and would like to be considered as a scholarship recipient\, please answer a few brief questions on our Scholarship Application. Responses will be reviewed by Learning Center staff and kept strictly confidential. \n_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ \nCancellation Policy: Refunds (minus Eventbrite fees) are available up to 7 days before the event. If you cancel after 7 days before the event\, we are unable to provide refunds unless we can fill your space from the waitlist (please note that this is uncommon). If someone is waitlisted and is able to purchase your space\, we will refund your ticket\, minus the Eventbrite fees. Otherwise\, there will be no refunds. You are also welcome to transfer your ticket to someone who wishes to purchase it directly from you. \n_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ \nPlease keep your pets at home as we have livestock onsite.
