These yarns offer unique characteristics that are tied to their origins and cannot be replicated in mass production. \nSome of the topics Gayle will discuss are: \n\nWhy knitters should consider ‘farm yarns\,’ and in particular\, yarns from their local Fibershed\nHow to find farm yarns\nProjects that are particularly suitable for farm yarns and why\nWool breed specificity (including heritage breeds) and how using different ones can add a special dimension to your craft.\n\nStudents will have ‘hands-on-needles’ knitting time with a variety of these yarns in person. The workshop will last two hours from 10am-12pm\, followed by a guided walk of the dye garden and a catered picnic lunch supplied by the instructor. \nNote! – There will be a separate afternoon field trip from 1-4pm that is connected to this workshop. In efforts to help the kelp and honor these animals\, we will create a beautifully dyed beanie using urchins from various kelp restoration projects along the West Coast. DESCRIPTION:Receive 97 credit hours in just a few weeks from the Industrial Sewing Boot Camp! This 2.5-week program prepares trainees for a career in the sewn trades and is currently offered in English with some Spanish translation. The Boot Camp is hosted in partnership with local industry partners\, Western Piedmont Community College\, and ABCCM/AB Tech. \nYou will learn:\n\n\nTools and Techniques \n\n\nMaterial and Methods \n\n\nBasic stitches and seams \n\n\nMachines for furniture and home goods \n\n\nBeginner projects (bags\, pillows\, zip pouch\, etc) \n\n\nBasic instruction (single needle machine\, serger\, and cover stitch) \n\n\n
