DESCRIPTION:In this 1.5-hour demo and Q&A session\, Robin Lynde of Meridian Jacobs (fibershed.org/producers/meridian-jacobs/) will show how to weave a neck warmer (a short scarf with a slit) on a take-anywhere rigid heddle loom\, with the easiest warping method you’ll ever use! Rigid heddle looms are simple to warp\, inexpensive\, and very portable. This is a great project for the person who wants to learn about weaving\, as well as a fun one for experienced weavers. Your whole project can easily be completed in a day. A great project to do on-the-go\, this loom can even go camping with you! She is the chief curator of MelaninASS (Melanin and Sustainable Style) – a blog platform amplifying the voices of BIPOC across sustainable fashion\, beauty\, and wellness spaces. She is also the Co-Founder of Sustainable Brooklyn\, an organization working to bridge the gap between the sustainability movement and targeted communities using tailored high-low approaches through BIPOC focused events & resource development. \nRebecca Burgess\, M.ed\, is the Executive Director of Fibershed\, Chair of the Board for Carbon Cycle Institute\, and the author of Harvesting Color. She is a vocationally trained weaver and natural dyer. She has over a decade of experience writing and implementing hands-on curricula that focus on the intersection of restoration ecology and fiber systems. She has taught at Westminster College\, Harvard University\, and has created workshops for a range of NGOs and corporations. She is the author of the best-selling book Harvesting Color\, a bioregional look into the natural dye traditions of North America. He has a B.A. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Textiles and Apparel from NCSU. He has shared his talents with Fibershed for the Grow Your Jeans project and the FIDM Design Challenge. \n\nThis webinar is part of a series that will be streaming live via Zoom from the Fibershed Learning Center\, \nThe Fibershed Learning Center is a multi-use space to demonstrate and provide hands-on connections to natural fiber and dye systems. The Learning Center will open later this year in Point Reyes Station\, California\, on the traditional and ancestral territory of the Coast Miwok and within the historic Black Mountain Ranch property. \nDuring this time of sheltering in place\, we are pleased to begin offering a series of online classes via Zoom. Proceeds from each event support the class instructor and contribute to Fibershed for educational programming. A portion of the proceeds from each virtual event will also be shared with a local and mission-aligned non-profit organization\, selected by the instructor. SUMMARY:Sonoma County Environmental Stewardship Panel:  Education\, Predators & Balanced Ecosystems
DESCRIPTION:This panel was formed to create an open\, amicable\, and educational discussion regarding wildlife management\, land conversion\, local policy & livestock predation\, specifically addressing how these issues affect our local food supply & grazing for fire fuel load reduction. \nThis is a grassroots effort to gather information\, experience\, and knowledge in a manner that honors and respects all voices. To bring together all parties of an emotionally heightened\, culturally fractioning topic in order to provide education\, while reducing the animosity between sides. We are attempting to create a methodology and template in which we can experience and consider a viewpoint that is different from our own while realizing that we can agree with aspects of both sides of the argument. We (the general public\, farmers\, researchers\, and governmental entities) are all connected and will never move forward in the discussion of these topics without flexibility\, respect\, and empathy. \nMoving forward\, we hope to develop two more panels to step this grassroots effort into creating more well-rounded policy & to provide management systems that support all different parties involved. \nClick here to register via Zoom
