SUMMARY:Botanical Printing with Mayumi Fujio
DESCRIPTION:Learn to create beautiful botanical prints using fresh leaves\, flowers\, and minerals. \nJoin us at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station\, CA\, where Mayumi will introduce botanical printing using fresh leaves and flowers\, along with minerals\, to transfer natural colors and shapes from plants onto fiber. It is like printing a photo directly from the leaves to the fabric. This introductory class will give you an understanding of dye plants and our relationship with nature. You will go home with a beautiful one-of-a-kind silk scarf (11″ x 64″) dyed with fresh plants from the Bay Area. Fresh leaves and flowers will be provided\, but you are also encouraged to bring leaves and flowers from your garden\, making it a personal scarf. \nEnroll here: mayumi-fujio.eventbrite.com \nMayumi Fujio is a fiber artist creating botanical printed art. The history of botanical printing is still young so she is constantly experimenting with new ideas. She has studied Ikebana\, field botany\, as well as edible and medicinal plants. This helps to create an aesthetic that is in harmony with nature and beauty. She uses all-natural plant and mushroom dyes to get vibrant colors for the background of her textiles\, and\, for the leaf patterns\, she grows and harvests fresh plants from around the San Francisco Bay Area. She aims to create sustainable art using nature. \nMayumi’s art pieces are sold at Asian Art Museum\, Seattle Art Museum\, San Jose Textile Museum\, and other art venues. She won an award at the prestigious Mill Valley Arts Festival in 2022. \nFind out more about Mayumi’s work at: mayumix.com \nStudents should bring: personal snacks\, lunch and beverages (a selection of teas will be served). Fresh leaves and flowers will be provided\, but you are also encouraged to bring leaves and flowers from your garden\, making it a personal scarf. \nThis class will involve walking around the Fibershed Learning Center and garden which has some mixed terrain areas. \n\nCancellation Policy: Refunds (minus Eventbrite fees) are available up to 30 days before the event. If you cancel after 30 days before the event we can only offer a refund (minus Eventbrite fees) if we are able to fill your space from the waitlist. Otherwise\, there will be no refunds or transfers. \n\nTuition Scholarships & Transportation/Childcare Stipends\nFibershed is offering two scholarships to most workshops; one scholarship if it’s a small class. In addition to scholarships for tuition\, we are offering a limited number of stipends for transportation and/or childcare. If you would not otherwise be able to attend\, and would like to be considered as a scholarship and/or stipend recipient\, please answer a few brief questions on this Google Form. Responses will be reviewed by Learning Center staff and kept strictly confidential. \n\nBONUS: The Clothing Swap Closet is now open during workshops and events at the Fibershed Learning Center! \nVisit the Clothing Swap Closet when you attend a workshop or event at the Learning Center and exchange your natural fiber garments and accessories. Your clothing contributions must be clean and in good condition. Each contribution entitles you to choose one item of comparable value. \nYou may depart up to an hour after the workshop ends\, to allow time to browse and try on items in the closet\, and make your trade!
