SUMMARY:The Carder\, A Tool to Expand Your Spinning with Color and Texture
DESCRIPTION:Join Marlie de Swart and Mimi Luebbermann at Windrush Farm for a class dedicated to the drum carder and all its magical uses! This class introduces the spinner to the drum carder and how to use this versatile tool to sandwich different fibers or mix colors. This enables you to make specially designed batts to spin into yarn colors that you will never see in yarn stores. Learn to make rainbow batts or\, introduce sari silk thread\, bits of yarn leftover\, dyed roving\, and wool curls into your batts for exciting new yarns. \nAll materials are included. \nClass Schedule: \n\nSaturday\, October 28\, 1:00pm – 4:00pm\n\nLocation: Windrush Farm\, 2263 Chileno Valley Road\, Petaluma\, CA 94952. \nPlease bring: Personal snacks and beverages. Windrush Farm is in a rural location outside Petaluma. The farm is located on flat but uneven terrain (please bring sturdy shoes). \nRegistration and Information: eventbrite.com/e/694436818217 \n\nAbout the Instructors: \nMarlie de Swart learned to spin as a young child at her mother’s knee in Holland\, and she has been doing it ever since. For the last twenty-two years\, she has been teaching spinning at Windrush Farm Fiber School in the Chileno Valley. Her book “Knitting Woolscapes\, Designs Inspired by Coastal Marin Wool” has many sweater patterns developed to be made with hand-spun yarn. She is one of the first board members of Fibershed and\, until recently\, owned and operated the Black Mountain Weavers Store (an artist cooperative) in Point Reyes Station. Marlie’s passion is everything fiber\, especially local fiber. \nMimi Luebbermann moved to Chileno Valley in 1995 with the dream of living quietly on a farm. Instead\, she ended up crazy about fiber and determined to create a fiber farm. Now\, sheep\, alpacas\, llamas\, goats\, and rabbits all contribute to the Windrush Farm yarns. As a dedicated spinner\, she works to educate people about the connection between fiber animals and yarn\, through school field trips\, her farmers market booth\, private tours\, and spinning classes to meet the animals and learn the process of transforming fleece to yarn. It is an endlessly fascinating life. \nInstagram: @windrushfarmpetaluma \nWeb: windrushfarm.wordpress.com \n\nTuition Scholarships & Transportation/Childcare Stipends:\nFibershed is offering one to two scholarships to most workshops.
