The creation of a satellite regulatory environment for industrial hemp through the passage of the 2014 Farm Bill led to a cobbling of black, white, and grey procedures for the procurement and cultivation of industrial hemp seed. Hemp seed, when it is acquired, is so far an unpredictable performer across a wide variety of soil types and cultivation methods. When hemp seed is acquired, cultivated, and harvested successfully, markets are difficult to find. What do we make of this, and what can we know about the future of industrial hemp in our farms and fields? Synthesizing lessons learned from our four years of research and practice, this webinar will focus on the broader economy and recent historical context of industrial hemp production, touching on the interconnections between issues of regulatory compliance, seed acquisition, and supply chain development.
