Join us at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station, CA for botanical printing with Mayumi Fujio.

Botanical printing uses real leaves along with mineral and tannin to transfer natural color and shape from plants onto natural fiber such as silk, cotton and linen. It is like printing a photo directly from the leaves to the fabric. In this class, you will learn the basic idea of botanical printing, what plants to use and detailed techniques to get a clear pattern from the plants. You will be making 1 silk scarf (11 x 64″) per person with colorful leaves.

Participants should bring: any personal any personal lunch, snacks, and beverages

Maximum 15 students.

Instructor Bio:

Mayumi Fujio is a fiber artist creating botanical printed art. The history of botanical printing is still very young so she is constantly experimenting with new ideas. She has studied Ikebana, field botany, edible and medicinal plants and this helps to create an aesthetic which is in harmony with nature and beauty. She uses all natural dye and mushroom dye to get the vibrant colors for the background and for the leaf patterns, she grows and harvest fresh plants from around the San Francisco Bay Area. She aims to create sustainable art using nature.

Her art pieces are sold at Asian Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, San Jose Textile Museum and other prestigious art festivals. She won the award at the prestigious Mill Valley Arts Festival in 2022.

Fibershed is offering one scholarship per workshop. If you would not otherwise be able to attend, and would like to be considered as a scholarship recipient, please answer a few brief questions on our Scholarship Application. Responses will be reviewed by Learning Center staff and kept strictly confidential.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds (minus Eventbrite fees) are available up to 7 days before the event. If you cancel after 7 days before the event, we are unable to provide refunds unless we can fill your space from the waitlist (please note that this is uncommon). If someone is waitlisted and is able to purchase your space, we will refund your ticket, minus the Eventbrite fees. Otherwise, there will be no refunds. You are also welcome to transfer your ticket to someone who wishes to purchase it directly from you.
