Japanese Sashiko Mending

June 29, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Event Navigation

Sashiko mending is a technique based out of Japan for mending clothing using decorative stitches.

Join Jonathan Lukaeck, who will be traveling here from Japan to share with you the beautiful and functional techniques of sashiko.

This workshop is a brief intro and explanation of sashiko as a sewing technique and how it applies to textiles. It is centered at encouraging hand-stitching and self-repair as well as upgrading garments. Students will learn how to use the old traditional techniques as well as the history of Sashiko in the Japanese culture.

All materials are included, however, students are encouraged to bring their own clothes or fabric they’d like to mend!
