Mending Techniques + Patchwork Pouch Virtual Demo
April 24 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Mending Techniques + Patchwork Pouch Virtual Demo with Heidi Iverson of Honeyfolk Clothing
Try your hand at simple stitching techniques that can repair, revive, and refashion the clothes and textiles in your life. Northern California Fibershed Producer member Heidi Iverson of Honeyfolk Clothing will lead us in a virtual demonstration of hand stitching techniques for mending and patchwork, including a walkthrough of making a soft cloth patchwork pouch.
NOTE: This demonstration will be recorded, and the video will be made publicly available by Fibershed. Please only register if you intend to join the live demonstration.
No prior experience is necessary. This workshop is a free offering sponsored by Fibershed intended to inspire a commitment to keeping textiles in use, as mended clothes or as scrap-based projects.
Heidi will walk us through the steps of selecting materials, learning basic stitches with a needle and thread, patching a garment, and assembling a patchwork pouch, and there will be a moderated Q&A.
If you want to follow along during the live demonstration, you will need:
+ hand sewing needle with an eye large enough to fit your thread (Heidi recommends the following types: embroidery needle, sashiko needle, chenille needle, milliners needle)
+ thread (Heidi recommends traditional sashiko thread, heavyweight cotton thread, crocheters cotton size 10, or embroidery floss)
+ fabric for patchwork (at least two 6×9″ pieces)
+ optional: thimble and embroidery hoop
+ the free patchwork pouch pattern downloaded from https://www.honeyfolkclothing.com/shop/honey-folk-patchwork-pouch-pattern
