My name is Cory, an older spelling Coire (Gaelic) means kettle, cauldron, hollow in the earth, and whirlpool. I am of Western, Central, Southern, and Northern European ancestry, born and raised on unceded Chochenyo Ohlone land, East Oakland. The entwined arts of sacred adornment and the handmade have flowed through my hands my entire life, fed my spirit, and made me whole.
Earth My Body is how I share with you my ongoing praxis of reclaiming ancestral knowledge through natural dyes, basket weaving, food, medicine, and fiber; through the generosity of the more than human world (plant, animal, insect, mineral, and elemental).
I’ve learned the most powerful and beautiful truths in my life through my work with natural dyes, my relationship with the living earth, Indigenous voices, and decolonial teachings. I’ve come to understand that for every destructive force on this earth, there is another way that is far more compassionate, elegant, balanced and beholden within the cycle of life.
Many aspects of EMB are currently in a dormant period, I am however, available for Natural Dye Studio consultation and creation, Tiny Basket commissions and small batch plant infused body oils. I look forward to once again teaching natural dye workshops to adults and children and making naturally dyed items with the seasons. Working with plants has changed my life.
