Visible Mending Virtual Workshop

Visible Mending is a creative way to extend the life of clothing and household items while embellishing them for a unique look. We will cover woven mends with Speedweve style looms as well as decorative embroidery including reinforcing fabric through patching and using backstitch, split stitch, chain stitch, daisy stitch, French knots, and woven roses.

About This Class

This workshop will take place on Zoom and registered students will receive the link two days in advance. Students will receive a handout as well as the slides shown during class, and will have the opportunity to ask questions during the workshop. The workshop will not be recorded and students do not have permission to record it themselves, but videos shown during class will be available to re-watch.

Materials Needed: Items to mend OR fabric for practicing, embroidery hoop, embroidery needle, embroidery floss, scissors, Speedweve style mending loom, fingering weight yarn or mending thread or sashiko thread. Optional: disappearing ink fabric marking pen.

About Instructor

Kira has worked in the yarn industry since 2002, as a yarn shop employee and later manager, teacher, pattern designer, and event host. She has been embroidering since she was six and weaving for over fifteen years, and have been practicing both invisible and visible mending since being a teenager.
